Video 2
I plan to pass on the information to my family and friends. This is an important piece of our story
Video 1 discusses the burial ground that was at first Native Americans, but later buried slaves there. There was a building built over the burial ground in 1840. Showing disregard for the natives and slaves.
ReplyDeleteVideo 2 discusses how when a new building was going to built over the burial grounds. Skeletons were found from slaves and natives underneath the surface. Many bodies were removed.
1. This video shows the 17th and 18th century slaves and free Africans and their burial conditions. The remains were found in the early 90's due to construction .
ReplyDelete2. In the early 90's again, a burial site was found. The remains were sent to Washington D.C. to be studied then given a proper burial, providing greater respect for the dead and the culture of the deceased.
Video 1 discusses the burial ground that was at first Native Americans, but later buried slaves there. There was a building built over the burial ground in 1840. Showing disregard for the natives and slaves.

The first video shows the African Burial grounds, where skeletons were found. A department was made on these grounds later on.
ReplyDeleteThe second video, bones of the slaves that died were found. They were later sent to Washington D.C to be cleaned and kept safe.
Video 1 An African burial ground where slaves and their families are buried, along with Native Americans.
ReplyDeleteVideo 2 This discusses how how the building over the burial ground was constructed, and how skeletons from slaves and natives.
The first video shows the place where African Slaves were buried. It was 1640 to 1650. It was the dead bodies of woman, men and children. The second video was about how they found skeletons and it was in November 1640 they had a ritual to celvrate the deceased slaves.
ReplyDeleteThe first video shows where the african slaves were buried during the 17th and 18th centuries. They found them because of construction in the 19th century There was a building built over the burial ground in 1840.They had no sympathy for the slaves or native americans.
ReplyDeleteThe second video shows the second finding of the burial ground. They found many skeletons of men women and children. They removed many of the skeletons from the ground, but rebuilt over it yet again.
1. Originally the African Burial ground was a Native American burial ground. Most of the buildings in the area were built over the burial grounds, this is seen as disregard or disrespect. Skeleton's are still being found underneath the streets. The speaker wants the sidewalk to be marked to show some respect to those who were buried there. 20,000 men, children and women were buried in this particular cemetery.
ReplyDelete2. In the second video archeologists are shown digging up and packaging bones that were found underneath a place that was meant to be a construction site, until the discovery of so many skeletons. The bones go to Washington D.C to Howard University, which is a center of African American anthropology. African priest sings a song about the dead people, although nameless, many people gathered to pay their respects. This burial ground is said to be the largest for early African Americans in the United States.
1) Near City Hall in Manhattan there is a 6 acre burial ground. It was once used to bury Native Americans until the 1640's when it was used to bury slaves. It is a little strange to think that the building you are in or the sidewalk you are walking on has the remains of people buried under it. I agree with the tour guide when he says that there should be something to mark that people were buried there so that people can acknowledge that.
ReplyDelete2)Another African American burial ground was discovered in 1993. The remains of African slaves buried there were discovered during the construction of a new federal office tower. The remains were taken to Washington D.C. A traditional African prayer service was offered for the people buried there.
1. close to city hall in manhattan there is a ancient burial ground. it is 6 acres that was once used to bury native americans then it was used to bury slaves. it is a little creepy to think that when you are there you are standing on people that were buried hundreds of years ago. there should be something to commemorate them and that they are there so people are aware of where they are.
ReplyDelete2. a different african burial ground was found in 1993. the remains of african slaves were found there while construction of a federal office tower was being conducted, the remains were brought to washington dc and a service was offered for them.
1. Was was originally the burial ground for natives was then used to bury slaves (around current day city hall). Remains still being found from the slaves and natives buried long ago. Buildings were built over these burial ground which is viewed as insolent. The man wants the sidewalk to show some acknowledgment and respect of those buried here. He says 20,000 men, children and women were buried there.
ReplyDelete2. During construction of a new federal office there was an excavation where remains were found. The remains are sent to Howard University in DC, where the African American anthropology center is located. This burial ground is the largest for slaves, and people have gone to pay their respect.
1. I found this video very interesting i never knew that they had such a big cementery that is where they separated slaves. I also never knew that the first department store was actually built on top of part of that cementary. It is crazy as the guy says that they actually built on top of the burial grounds as if they were nothing. It is also crazy that the street where people walk on is also the burial ground and the people building found skeleton while building.
ReplyDelete2.This vidio shows that the people building in New York city did not know that where they were doing construction was a burial cite , this was because it wasnt brought to anyones attention in the early years. The bones found were brought to Washington DC. They removed many of the remains found but their are many still there and none of their names are known.
The first video tells us where the free and enslaved Africans were buried in the 1600's to the 1700's. I found this really interesting because now its like a normal street. Many years ago there were slaved being buried, and now there is a store, there are people walking and its really amazing. The cemetary is big and there must of been a lot of African Americans that were dug inside the ground.
ReplyDeleteThe second video is very interesting as well. Bones were found inside the ground when contruction workers were doing what they needed to do. The bones were seperated and they were brought to Washington DC. These bones were remains from all the African Americans that were burried in the 17th and 18th centuries.
African burial ground was originaly the indian burial ground. The burial ground is 6.6 acres and goes from Broadway to Center street. There also buildings on top of the burial grounds with is very disrespectful. There are people still buried under the side walk too. Archaeologists believe 20,000 men, women and children were buried.
ReplyDeleteNovember of 1993 people found a burial ground in a construction site. The bone where sent Washington DC to Howard university. The bone will be analyzed for 5 to 7 years. 400 people where removed and 100 to 200 still remain there
