Lord Cornbury's people sent at least three letters home criticizing that he was a transvestite as well as his performance as the governor. he spent a lot of money and was in a lot of debt. as well as accused of taking bribes and mishandling government money. some historians say he was not only a transvestite but the worst governor in the new world.

Lord Cornbury was the govenor of NYC and is recalled because of his scandelous behavior. He spent alot of his money and was in debt,and he is also accused of taking bribes. He was known as a corrupt politician but mostly because he was a cross dresser. He claimed to dress like a women because he wanted to represent Queen Anne as best as he can.

Edward Hyde, also known as Lord Cornbury, was known for scandalous behavior and being a transvestite. He was accused of taking bribes and mishandling government money. The Queen had recalled him for this scandalous behavior, and not just the clothes he wore. Lord Cornbury was not the first to have such behavior by posing as a woman. There are accounts where Cornbury opened the 1702 New York Assembly dressed in the sort of hooped gown and headdress that the Queen wore.

Lord Cornbury is accused of mishandling government money and taking bribes, he was also sent letters that critisise his lavish transvestite life style. The painting of him in womens clothing was supposed to be "Proof" he dressed frequently in womens clothing, his enemies wanted to use this in a political campaign.The artist is unknown and very little information about the painting is known. He was jailed until the death of his father, than his inheritance payed back his debts.

Lord Cornbury was the govenor of New York between 1701 and 1708 , he is also know as Edward Hyde. he spent alot of money and was in debt , he also got arrested for being in debt . He was a cross dresser , he liked to dress in women's clothes. He died around 1737.

He often sent letters to England with very obscene things that upset the queen. He was not a well liked governor due to his bribing, obscene behavior, and the way he dressed.

Judging by the look of Lord Cornbury he was a cross dresser. He was an English man sent to New Amsterdam to be the governor. He would tell the queen of england things that happened and they wouldn't usuallt be good.

ReplyDeleteEdward Hyde, 3rd Earl of Clarendon, styled Viscount Cornbury between 1674 and 1709, was Governor of New York and New Jersey between 1701 and 1708, and is perhaps best known for the claims of his cross-dressing while in office. LOL everyone hated him. Not for cross dressing, but for putting them in debt and spent most of money.
Edward Hyde served as the governor of New York and New Jersey from 1701 to 1708 when The Queen recalled him because of his scandalous behavior. He was a cross dresser or a transvestite. The people disliked him not only for his cross dressing but for his lavish spending which put him deep in debt as well as taking bribes.
